Dark carnation
Scientific name: Epilobium obscurum Schreb.

MORPHOLOGY
Habit and size: herbaceous perennial plant, reaching a height of thirty centimeters.
Stem: elongated, prostrate and leafless. It has white hairs and branching in the upper part.
Leaves: opposite, oblong ovate laminate. Upper leaves have slightly toothed margins, basal leaves have entire margins.
Flowers: grouped in terminal inflorescences, with rose-coloured petals of varying shades. They appear between May and July.
Fruits and seeds: linear capsules that open when ripe releasing obovate seeds with long whitish hairs.
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
Plant native to Europe, present in Italy up to an altitude of around 1,500 meters. Often found near peat bogs, small springs and fountains, it prefers moist, well-drained soils.
USE

The specific name refers to its dark color.
