Haller’s fescue

MORPHOLOGY
Habit and size: pianta erbacea perenne, con gemme poste a livello del terreno con l’aspetto di ciuffi.
Stem: erect and gracile, up to 15 cm long.
Leaves: linear and glaucous.
Flowers: appear between July and August in panicles.
Fruits and seeds: purple spikelets containing oblong caryopses.
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
Plant native to southern Europe, present in Italy in northern and central regions. It is often found in mountain environments, above an altitude of 2,700 metres, in pastures and meadows.
USE
No know use.
CURIOSITY
The species was named in honour of the Swiss physician, naturalist and poet Albrecht von Haller, professor of botany in Göttingen.
