MORPHOLOGY
Habit and dimensions: Perennial herbaceous plant, 20-70 cm tall.
Stems: Ascending stems, always fertile shoots.
Leaves: Leaves are 2 mm wide with soft blades, spreading.
Flowers: The inflorescence is a raceme of widely spaced spikelet racemes (panicle), with rough branches. Blooms from April to October.
Fruits and seeds: The fruits are caryopses.
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
Present throughout Italy in forests, from 0 to 1,800 m with peaks at 2,500 m.
