MORPHOLOGY
Habit and dimensions: Perennial herbaceous plant, 20-100 cm tall.
Stems: Ascending, erect, glabrous stems.
Leaves: Leaves with keeled blade, 4-6 mm wide, with ligule up to 10 mm.
Flowers: The inflorescence is a raceme of spikelet racemes (panicle) with 8-10 whorls, spikelets with 3-5 flowers. Blooms from April to September.
Fruits and seeds: The fruits are caryopses.
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
Present throughout Italy in fertile and fertilized meadows, from 0 to 1,200 m with peaks at 1,900 m.
