MORPHOLOGY
Habit and size: aquatic annual plant.
Stem: branched and creeping.
Leaves: thick and linear, with an oblong or ovate blade and with parallel veins.
Flowers: with narrow blue or purple petals. The flowering period, which can take place between May and November depending on environmental conditions, is very short.
Fruits and seeds: oblong, narrow, brown capsules.
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
Plant native to America, not very present in Italy. It is found from an altitude of around 0 to 100 metres. Prefers shallow waters and muddy soils.
USE
No know use.
CURIOSITY
The generic name is derived from Greek and Latin, referring to the anthers of the male flowers of variable shape, while the species name refers to the environment in which the plant grows.
