Scientific name: Persicaria mitis (Schrank) Assenov

MORPHOLOGY
Habit and dimensions: Annual herbaceous plant, 30 – 120 cm tall.
Stem: Prostrate-ascending, robust.
Leaves: Entire leaves, lanceolate-acute blade (1.5-3 x 6.5-8 cm), leafy ochrea up to 1 cm long, with long cilia.
Flowers: Interrupted spikes, up to 20 cm long, curved-pendulous; flowers: white-pinkish. Blooms from June to October.
Fruits and seeds: The fruit is a trigonous green-crimson achene, 2.5-4.5 mm.
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
Present throughout Italy except Molise, Puglia, and Basilicata. It lives in humid environments such as ponds and ditches, in ruderal environments and cultivations, from 0 to 800 m.
