MORPHOLOGY
Habit and dimensions: Perennial herbaceous plant, 20-50 cm tall, stoloniferous and tufted.
Stems: Kneeling and ascending stems, compressed on two sides towards the top.
Leaves: Leaves are 2-4 mm wide, with upper ones having a ligule of 1-2 mm.
Flowers: Dense panicle, often unilateral, with upright or spreading branches; spikelets with 5-8 flowers, measuring 4 mm. Blooms from May to August.
Fruits and seeds: The fruits are caryopses.
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
Present throughout Italy in uncultivated areas and along roadsides, from 0 to 1,500 m.
