Marsh Yellowcress
Scientific Name: Rorippa palustris (L.) Besser.
Family: Brassicaceae
MORPHOLOGY
Habit and Size: Annual herbaceous plant; height 20÷60 (100) cm.
Stem: The stems are erect, sometimes with branches.
Leaves: Basal leaves soon disappearing, cauline leaves pinnatisect with enlarged segments and clasping auricles, they have dentate margins and reach 30 cm.
Flowers: The inflorescence is a raceme of flowers with yellow petals a few millimeters long. Blooms from April to July.
Fruits and Seeds: The fruit is a dehiscent and smooth silique, up to a centimeter long, containing 20 to 90 small seeds.
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
Present throughout Italy except Calabria; in humid, muddy environments, periodically flooded. It grows between 0 and 1,000 m, rarely reaching 1,700 m.
